Objectives
The key driver for initiation of the project, identified by national Waste Management Organizations, is the undesired high uncertainty with respect to the radionuclide transport in the crystalline host-rock far-field. In response to this, a key overall project objective is to provide these waste management organizations with a tool for improving the situation in forthcoming site investigation programs. The expected progress is that the project will;
(i) show if the bottom-up approach can serve this purpose, and if so
(ii) how this can be implemented in forthcoming site investigation programs.
- Investigate to which extent the present uncertainty with respect to the radionuclide transport in the crystalline host-rock far-field can be lowered by the methodology generated within the project,
- Show how the outcome of the project can be used in the Safety Assessment, and
- Propose how the developed approach can be successfully used in forthcoming site investigation programs.
- Increase scientific and process understanding in the transport simulations used to support Performance Assessment (PA) conclusions for the purpose of increasing confidence in the safety of nuclear waste disposal.
